A Skype Christmas!

Our humble Christmas tree

Our humble Christmas tree

The Christmas musical at our church, which my husband and I sang in, was a success!  We had so much fun doing it too.  Our son and daughter-in-law were in town so they saw it and two neighbors attended as well, they all loved it.  ‘Christmas in the City’ was performed four times over three days, plus family was in town……boy, was I tired on Monday.

There’s always a letdown when celebrating a holiday with loved ones early, because you know you won’t get to see them on the actual holiday…….like Christmas.  This probably happens to almost everyone at one time or another, but is necessary.   John and I won’t be around family at all this Christmas except each other.

We can Skype or Hangout (Google+) and that really helps a lot…..it’s almost like being there!! (sorta).

We are planning to go the the movies as well.  I hear the Hobbit is really good.  Les Miserables movie looks excellent, but I’m sure every show will be a packed house.   And with good reason, besides being a great musical, the movie was filmed live which sounds very intriguing!  Last year we rode our new bikes to the lakes around the corner from our house, it was such a warm and beautiful day.  The forecast for Christmas day this year is suppose to be 65 degrees so maybe we will go for a bike ride to the lakes again.

Well I’m still working on the afghan for my daughter-in-law, these things take time! So many things have gotten in the way of my knitting.  It’s okay though, yikes! I can’t believe I said that!! (I must be loosing it) It’s not okay to not knit because of the relaxing power it has over me……to knit is to relax! 🙂  Since I can’t knit and blog at the same time then I best be going now.

Please try to relax during the holidays (just a little!)  Happy knitting : )

Crazy December

Sorry for non-posting, I have been preoccupied with Christmas stuff!  I know……no excuses 😦

December is a very busy time of the year as I know it must be for all of you.  With knitting and embroidering gifts for family and friends, shopping and just regular routine stuff, it’s hard to stay caught up. Plus!!! This past year my husband and I joined our church choir which is putting on a Christmas musical four times this week.  I’m also selling a little at my Etsy shop.  I sold this yellow bird cozy a couple of days ago: Link, it’s all good and I love this time of the year in spite of the busyness. Yellow Bird Cup Cozy

I have to show this Christmas gift I bought for the three kitties on Amazon.  Portia is clearly owning this and Romie is sleeping on the very bottom of the kitty mansion/climber, under the cat scratcher area. (Pictured below) Yes ….It’s rather tall!

I can’t show the gifts I’m making right now in case they are reading this post.

Our oldest son and daughter-in-law are coming this week-end to celebrate an early Christmas with us as they will be out of town for Christmas.  We are looking forward to it!!  We might visit: Old Town San Diego, lots of wonderful Mexican food there and cute shops too.

Gotta go, have a great week!!

Happy knitting and crocheting : )

Thankful for natures beauty

Thanksgiving was a wonderful time of relaxation and spending time with family and friends in Indio Ca and of course we had lots of wonderful food. I have to say relaxing because for the last few years since John and I have downsized our home we haven’t the space to fully entertain large groups of people any longer.  I do miss it but we had to go where the jobs are and it’s very expensive to live here in San Diego County.

The day after Thanksgivings we took a drive through Joshua Tree National Park  (Link), in the deserts of California. John took this picture on my cell phone of a Joshua tree.  No phone service here but luckily the camera in the phone worked great for all the photos shown. : )

A Joshua Tree

This next photo is a cholla cactus from the Cholla cactus garden where you are allowed to stroll along the designated self guided trail.  The trail is only a 1/4 mile long but so amazing and beautiful to see.  (We were not prepared and wore sandals) Ouch!!

Joshua Tree has huge rocks to climb on if interested!  (Not me) The second rock pic is called Skull Rock because it looks like a skull.

I did not do much knitting because I wanted to enjoy our trip with all the beauty around us that God created.  I hope you always take time to give thanks for friends, family and nature.  Love ya!

Happy crochet and knitting 🙂

Hostess gift idea!

Are you in need of a hostess gift or maybe several of them this holiday season?

Why not give a hand knit or crochet market bag!  With just about everybody trying to be green these days it makes sense to give something that can be used in every store they enter.  And of course with the holidays here it could be used by you and your hostess almost every day.  Remember! Some stores don’t even give out bags anymore.

The market bag I knitted was from the newest Holiday edition of Knit Simple Magazine 2012. There are some great gift ideas in there for everyone on your list.

English: Screenshot of part of the My Notebook...

Ravelry has quite a few knit and crochet market bags that are easy and fun to make.  Here are a few to get you started: Market Bag: Link. Crochet Market Bags: Link.  And the one I’m currently working on #42 Market Bag: Link  Pictured below is the one I made with two changes.  I did not make the handle as long as suggested because they often stretch too much when items are placed inside.  I used wool-ease (Lyon Brand yarn)  doesn’t stretch as much as cotton.

Fill market bags with a bag of tortilla chips and a jar of salsa to give to your hostess, or how about a bottle of wine and some chocolate. (Yum)  Or maybe with some fresh-cut flowers for the table!  Market bags can be used again and again and are probably much stronger than the ones mass-produced.  Keep a supply of market bags on hand for when you need a quick gift and or wrapping paper.  I keep them in my car but need to remember to use them for when I go shopping…….Oops!

I hope you have fun making these for your friends and family, and of course for yourself!

Happy crochet and knitting but most of all, have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.  (Try not to pig out too much!) 🙂

Healthy Knitting with Chocolate!

Just thought I would share this nice bit of chocolate information.  It’s important to know the right dosage of chocolate to eat every day don’t you think?  All so, studies have found that chocolate consumption reduces risk of dementia and enhances performance on tests of cognitive function.  Lots of important info to process here!! Ha, ha!

Soooooo can you imagine how much faster and smoother all those knitting and crochet projects will go?  Fewer mistakes and frogging (ripping out of stitches).  Yep,  It’s all good but just don’t over do!!  (Whatever that might be.)

Happy knitting and crochet : )
