The Good the Bad, the Ugly Slippers

Remember the slippers I mentioned recently when I gave a review on the newest Filati magazine?  I finished them on Super Bowl Sunday.

finishing slipper #1

Hear are the slippers partially knitted.

Hear is the way they looked before felting.  Just as I expected, very large indeed…..but then….

done....Now to felt them!

BEWARE!

Felting gone terribly wrong....

Well they did not turn out the way I thought they would.  I have felted many project before but nothing that turned out like this!   They turned out too long and were way too narrow to even put on and shape into place before drying.   So I looked at the pattern again to see what went wrong. The only change I made was to make the slippers longer by a few stitches.  Maybe I should have added a few more stitches to make them wider, but they still would not have been wide enough.  Could I have felt them too much?  They just did not felt well (proportionately).  It could have been the yarn too.  It could certainly NOT have been my fault!!!! LOL

I don’t like being wasteful so the slippers will be used in a future project in some way.  Maybe make coin purses, or pockets for totes.  Any suggestions?

Happy knitting,

Super Bowl Knitting!

Every year during Super Bowl I like to have something on my needles. This year I’m finishing up the slippers for my husband and then starting on a hat/cowl combo.  I Just cast on so I don’t have much to show here.

hat/scarf combo, just casted on the needles

The yarn is by Bernat  Baby Jacquards and the colorway is Cherry Berry.  My son’s fiance loves pink and so I thought she might enjoy this combo.  I call it that because it’s a hat with an opening on both ends and you thread an i-cord through the top and tie closed for a hat or release it if you want to turn it into a cowl to keep your neck warm.

It has been tradition in our home to serve chili with all the sides like salad, rice, cornbread and toppers for the Super Bowl every year.  Sometimes I have to admit that I do change it out for pizza instead.   My husband loves to watch the game and I like the commercials and knit.  We both like puppy bowl on APL a lot so we watch that when there’s a slow time during the game.  Kitty half time is fun too!

The game is getting ready to start so I must depart….Happy knitting!

Knitting places?

I’m amazed that some people can actually knit at the movie theater. I wish that I could do that but I need to look down at my work too much to see what I’m doing.  Maybe some day!

But I do like to knit in the car (If I’m not the driver of course).  One time my husband and I took our vacation to Yellowstone Park and stayed with some friend’s there.

The drive was rather long so during our trip I knitted a pair of pink socks.  Though fairly new at this sock knitting business, it was enjoyable.   I’m lucky in that I don’t get car sick while knitting or reading in the car.  Well anyway, the time went by a lot quicker when I was knitting than when I was doing the driving!

Here’s a picture of the socks knitted on the way to and from Yellowstone Park.

Not a great pic, but here they are!

Before the big move to Southern California, my friend and I would knit at a coffee-house weekly.   Sometime people even showed interest in what we were doing.  I really miss all that. Now we Skype once a week and do our knitting that way and of course lots of talking too!

Some people like to knit at the grocery store while waiting in line to pay for their goods.  Others like to knit at the doctor’s office.  If your creative you can get a lot of knitting done when your in a pinch to get that gift done in time.    Happy knitting places!

FILATI Revew!

I bought the latest Filati knitting magazine, Edition 42 a couple of weeks ago, and was delighted with the pattern selection.  There are some very nice decor patterns and great ideas in here for pillows, blankets, & a tea cozy.  Over 50 ideas!

If you like to make wool felting projects like I do than you need to get this magazine!  One of my passions is felting bags, totes and purses, there are 6 patterns in this edition.  The cover shows a beautiful felted grey tote with an unusual cable edge.  (I’m going to make that one!)  There’s a felted slipper pattern that looks simple enough and you could make these for your whole family and for yourself.  Makes a great gift for someone’s birthday!  I’m going to make this one too!

Lots of baby patterns, like booties, some baby outfits, hats and a cute chick for baby to play with!   For adults there are beautiful sweaters, a scarf and some shawls, two sweaters for men and one for a boy.

Over all it’s a must have for your pattern collection.

Free Crochet Mobius Cowl pattern

As much as I like to knit, I also like to crochet now and then.  This pattern is so easy and fun to make:

I used Bulky yarn and size L (8.0mm) Crochet hook

Make a chain of 15, now single crochet (sc) in every chain across.  You should have 14 sc stitches at this point.

Chain 1, sc across in the back loop of each sc to the end, Continue with every row the same. Crochet till the scarf is about 26-34″ long or as long as you wish.  Now twist once to make the mobius then crochet the two ends together.  Weave in ends and you are ready to wear it!  You can make the scarf wider if you like, or change the yarn to worsted weight yarn and add more chains at the beginning. (Don’t forget to make adjustments accordingly.)

If you are not interested in making this scarf but would still like to have one, you can buy them  ready to wear at my Etsy shop,  trimitup.etsy.com  They really make a nice gift.

Please let me know what you thinks, and if you make it, let me know how it turns out!

Happy knitting (crochet)  marilynknits 🙂
