Free knit pattern (Trio Lace Scarfett)

I have been playing around with yarn and needles again……and came up with the Trio Lace Scarfett pattern and thought you might enjoy it as well!   This is a nice first lace project.

Trio Lace Scarfett

I used less than 1 skein of worsted weight yarn and size 6 or 7 knitting needles for gauge: 4 stitches per inch.

abbreviations: k = knit     tog = knit 2 together    ssk = slip, slip, knit these 2 stitches together      [ ] work instructions as many times as directed

Cast on 31 stitches

Row 1 – knit across

Row 2 – (RS) – *k2, ssk [k1, yo] twice, k1, k2 tog, k1; rep from* k1.

Row 3 – Purl

Repeat rows 2 & 3  for pattern.  Knit for 22-28 inches depending on how long you want it to be. Knit 4 more rows (garter stitch) Bind off.

Add 3 buttons 1/2 ” from beginning row.  Button to the other end where the lace holes are or if you make it long enough you can just wrap the scarf around your neck and not use the buttons if you want.

Enjoy!  Happy knitting 🙂

Day seven: knitting and Chocolate!

Day seven: 3rd April. Your knitting and crochet time.

Write about your typical crafting time. When it is that you are likely to craft – alone or in more social environments, when watching TV or whilst taking bus journeys. What items do you like to surround yourself with whilst you twirl your hook like a majorette’s baton or work those needles like a skilled set of samurai swords. Do you always have snacks to hand, or are you a strictly ‘no crumbs near my yarn!’ kind of knitter.

This is a pretty boring blog for the last “Knitting & crochet Blog Week”  but here it goes: Having moved late last year and having to leave a job I loved means lots of knitting time for me now, (though I am looking for a new job). I pretty much knit everyday, morning, noon and night.  The tv is usually on and there’s most likely a kitty on my lap. On days when my RA is bothering me, then not much gets done.  I like to drink coffee or tea & snack on chocolate while knitting!!!  So far no chocolate on the knitting.

When I’m not knitting than I’m working on or thinking about my next knitting blog……and yes, even whilst knitting or eating…… the blog thinking goes on!

The blog week was so much fun and stretched my writing skills about one of my favorite subject, KNITTING & CROCHET!  It was also fun to read everyone elses blogs and learn from their experiences.  I am looking forward to the Knitting & Crochet Blog Week next year.

Happy knitting 🙂

Day six: 2nd April. Something to aspire to.  Is there a pattern or skill that you don’t yet feel ready to tackle but which you hope to (or think you can only dream of) tackling in the future, near or distant? Is there a skill or project that makes your mind boggle at the sheer time, dedication and mastery of the craft? Maybe the skill or pattern is one that you don’t even personally want to make but can stand back and admire those that do. Maybe it is something you think you will never be bothered to actually make bu can admire the result of those that have.

I’m sure there a many skills that I haven’t learned yet but one that I’m very interested in is Entrelac knitting. I have not even looked at how to do it yet but am very intrigued by its beauty and how all the various colors come together to make a shawl or bag, etc.  I have a free pattern from interweave publishers knit magazine, called the basic entrelac scarf and want to give it a go maybe this year.  Hopefully I can do it justice.  If anyone out there has some tips, than please let me know!!!

Another skill is to make a fancy complicated lace shawl, one with more than just a simple lace pattern.  I’ve been kind of afraid of knitting one, concerned that the rows will get all messed up and then I will need to rip out rows (frogging) or worse yet can’t find out how to get back on track after having pull back some rows.  Worried that I can’t understand what the pattern is saying.  WOW……sounds like I just really need to tackle this one straight on and put it on my list of things to do this year.  Well to get started, I bought some Wendy Knit lace patterns today.  My friend said her patterns were on sale right now, and I can’t resist a sale!

The knitting here of course was not done by me.

Happy knitting 🙂

Day Five: 1st April. And now for something completely different

Where are my belated yarn things?

Day 4, Where are they now?

Boy, I really had to think about that question and where all my giveaways & keepers are, and how are they holding up? But as I thought about it I realized that there is an afghan sitting on the couch that I made about 5 years ago with Vanna’s yarn, duh! (and it’s still holding up well.) I have made several afghans and all of them were crocheted except one that was knitted.  Crochet was mostly what I did 5 years ago.  But also crocheting afghans make more sense to me because they are quicker to make as opposed to knitting one.  I made all of them with acrylic yarn because it’s generally less costly and holds up well.

I also made the “Something Red” cardigan by Wendy Bernard.  I love wearing  this cardigan, it’s very comfortable.  It was knit in a cotton blend by Lion Brand,Cotton Ease in terracotta and knit from the top down with long sleeves.  I made it last year but hope it lasts a long time.

Something Red pattern

My first top down was a shrug that I gave to my husband’s cousin a few years ago.  I don’t have a picture of it but she was very happy with it (at least I think so).

I crocheted a cardigan for my youngest son but he didn’t like wearing it that much.  I still have it but it’s stored away for now in hopes that a someday future grandchild might want to wear it.  I also made many toys for them, they loved those stuffed toys but once again I don’t have any pictures of them, and not sure where they are.  Some of them did wear out.

There have been many baby showers where I knit or crocheted baby gifts……I wonder how they are holding up?

Well I must say that writing this blog reminds me that most of what I made 20-30 years ago was not knit but crocheted.  The last five years have been knitting years and boy have I learned a lot!

Happy knitting 🙂
