Free Kneading cloth pattern for kitty and you!

My kitties like to knead on my arm, stomach or leg……that can be painful!  I clip their claws but sometimes they can still snag my sweaters.  In the summer when the kitties want to knead and I’m wearing a t-shirt they can still scratch even when their claws a clipped.  Hence…. the kneading cloth!!!

You can keep the cloth near your favorite spot to sit and when you have a kitty the in the mood……….voila!!!  For those who have de-clawed kitties than your cat might just enjoy at anyways as a place to nap and keep your furniture from getting all furry.

With some thought and experience with cats I knew that I would need a rather dense fabric.  So with that in mind knitting with two strands of yarn instead of  one would work better and knitting in a garter stitch would make the cloth softer and squishy and protect your clothes and skin from harm. I used Homespun yarn, it’s not too expensive and the cats don’t really care.  I found out that they liked Homespun yarn because a few a years ago I made a lot of prayer shawls and found that the cats gravitated to them. I still have the one I made for my mother, though sadly she passed away a few years ago.  One of my cats just loves that old shawl and yes it’s a mess but at least it’s being used!  So anyway please don’t use expensive yarn!!!

The second picture is of Romie covering the unfinished kneading cloth so you really can’t see it……as you can tell I wasn’t very far along and she’s a large cat.

Here's Romie sleeping on it before it's done.

Yarn…..Cottage style!

I visited a yarn store recently in San Diego http://www.needlecraftcottage.com/.  A friendly, cozie yarn store in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, and yes it’s very close the beach.  I bought some Malabrigo finger weight yarn there.  Not sure what I’m going to make with it yet, (maybe a shawl) but I am very excited to knit with it.  The sales person said it’s a popular colorway (Indiecita 416) made with 51% Silk and 49% Merino wool, 150 yards each.  That should enough for a shawl!

The Needlecraft Cottage had a nice selection of yarn and supplies such as for embroidery & needlepoint.  They even have a collection of Laurel Burch accessories like pouches and bags… love her stuff!  They also offer lots of various knitting & crochet classes.

While I was there, someone from the store was taking pictures for the Needlecraft Cottage Facebook account.  They are also Ravelry, check them out!

I plan to visit there again!

Happy knitting 🙂

New pattern in the works!!!

Rainbow Cowl/Hat

I have been working on a new knit pattern called the Rainbow Cowl/Scarf for lack of a better name. (The name might change)  I can’t believe how long it can take to develop a pattern for others to use.  Hoping that what I write makes sense to others besides me, and I worried about possible typos.

When I first saw the idea of a hat being use as a cowl and vice versa……for me it just made a lot of sense.  Very handy for travel and keeps you warm when you need it.  I will offer the pattern soon, but for now here’s a picture it!

My sister was kind enough to model the cowl/scarf for me when she visited this past weekend.

Happy Easter everybody!

Birthday girl…..

My birthday is Saturday and my sister and brother in-law are coming to visit from northern California. I am so excited to see them!!! My sister and I used to celebrate our birthdays by taking each other out for lunch and then we’d go shopping (So much fun). But now that I moved away we can’t do that. She wanted to surprise me by coming on my birthday this year.

So I won’t be knitting much this week-end because my husband and I will be showing them around. We are also thinking of going to the Wild Animal park in Escondido, I think it’s now called Safari park.

I’m knitting my sister a pair on pocket book slippers by Lisa Vienneau & Allison Barrett for her arrival. These slippers are nice for travel, hope she likes them! I’m making them in blue, not what’s pictured here. Got the pattern from Ravelry.

Happy knitting 🙂

Knitting wash cloths

Today I’m knitting wash cloths for something to do and to calm me.

We bought a new table, chairs and buffet server this week-end and delivery is today.  Problem is……the server arrived fine but there was an oops with the table and chairs, they delivered the wrong set.  So needless to say I’m a bit frustrated.  Seems there was a computer code error!!!  The correct set will be delivered later today…..hope they get it right this time. I might have had too much coffee too, which doesn’t help the situation.  So like I said before, knitting wash cloths tend to be relaxing for me and I need some fresh ones anyways.

Happy knitting 🙂
