Whale Cat Toys-O-Plenty!

Lately I have been knitting lots of whale cat toys for our local Animal Shelter. It is now Spring season and that means it’s only a matter of time before all the shelters will be filled with lots of cute little fluffy kittens that will be cooped up in small cages all day.  So I want to do my part to make their days a little less boring.

The pattern I’m using is one found on Ravelry called Whale Cat Toy. http://simpleknits.blogspot.com/2007/01/whale-cat-toy-pattern.html by Vicki Mikulak.  Very easy pattern to knit!  (Tip!) For the stuffing, just use a little of the same yarn…..dosen’t take much.  Because these toys are for a shelter they cannot have catnip in them…..(makes them too excited).  My own cats do appreciate the catnip though as they have room to romp freely.

Happy Easter and Happy Knitting!  : )

At last……the man vest!

Finished the navy vest for my husband and he has already worn it.  John says it’s very warm and comfortable to wear.   The first picture shown is the vest without the neck and arm edges completed and of course the second one here is John wearing it.

I had a problem with the length……….the pattern said to knit for 13″ from the bottom edge to the bottom of the arm opening.  When I finished the vest it was a little short.  Being unwilling to rip the whole thing out and start over again I decided to do a crochet edging to give the vest some length.  I’m happy with the results but would have prefered to knit the body 2″ or 3″ longer instead.  You will notice the bottom edge has an unusual second layer of ribbing, Ha,ha……..I never said I was perfect!

The pattern is called: Subtle stripe men’s vest. For those interested, you can find the pattern on Ravelry.

Happy knitting : )

Cedar Leaf Shawlette

Here is a scarf/shawl I knit a few months ago but never posted.  Knit with wonderful malabrigo yarn…need I say more!  The colorway is Indiecita 416.  The pattern is called Cedar Leaf Shawlette by Alana Dakos.  Loved knitting this so much and the leaves around the border were fun to make.  The leaves are made with short rows and if you have never knit short rows before….. might I suggest trying out this shawl pattern.  You can buy it on Ravelry! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cedar-leaf-shawlette

The colorway is just beautiful and will look great with denim or over a cute little dress.

Well it’s a three-day weekend (Presidents Day) for most people so I hope you really enjoy it.   We plan to go do a little bicycling if the weather cooperates.

Happy Knitting  :  )

Vest For Husband!

For the first time ever my husband John asked ME to knit him something.  You see, he does not like to wear sweaters (too warm), yes I have made him hats to keep his head warm……….I knit John a sweater once long ago but it did not fit him well (no understanding of gauge then) and I didn’t know at the time that he didn’t like to wear sweaters.

Where he works it gets a bit cold at times so he thought if he wears a knit vest it can be taken off easily when he gets too warm.  So I’m thrilled to knit him a vest, and best thing is it shan’t take that long.  The only downfall is that John wants it in a navy color which as some of you night know can be difficult color to knit with (dark).

The yarn is a ho hum kinda yarn…….not very exciting. The yarn is by Loops & Threads and distributed by Michael’s.  I’m having some trouble with the yarn splitting so I need to pay close attention to that issue.

This is what the vest will look like when finished.  The pattern is called: Subtle stripe men’s vest.  For those interested, you can find the pattern on Ravelry.

These are pics of the lake around the corner from our house where we ride our bicycles.  Taken with my cell phone, not too bad!

Hope you’re enjoying the new year……Happy knitting  : )
