End of Summer Red Cardi!!!

Summer is ending soon…and as people always say…it went by way too fast.  Children starting school is usually the hallmark of summer ending.  But!!! There is still some beautiful weather to be had this season so go for a bike ride, picnic, or even sailing!!! (inside joke) We went sailing this summer but capsized our boat, luckily it was in shallow water and my phone was in a zip lock bag. (love those things)

The newest in my repertoire of knit cardigans is pictured below…. Notice that it’s not green but RED!!! : )  Ooops Portia made her presence known into one of the photos last minute……she’s much prettier than the cardi.  (Cute little puddy cat)  The free pattern is called Kid Serta cardigan from the Cascade Yarns website: http://cascadeyarns.com/index.asp

Finished the back and steam pressed it and have now started the front.  I’m not using mohair as suggested, but using the alpaca blend I won on Ebay.   I  knit loose so I am knitting with a size 3 US circular needle instead of the recomended size 6.  The pattern is rather straight forward  (flat knitting & seamed) All stocking stitch but that’s ok because I like doing mindless knitting sometimes.  Should go smoothly!

Enjoy the rest of your Summer and Happy knitting : )

TOO HOT!!! So knit small!

Southern California has been very hot and humid all week and the weather people are really making a big deal about it.  It’s funny because where I was from (Sacramento Ca. area) it is hotter by far…..well except in the desert.  It’s all relative I guess.

I’m continuing my cup cozy knitting.  I’ve been getting orders for NFL cozies.  Guys want team colors with their own name embroidered on them.   Here’s a sample of what they want.

Pittsburg Steelers

I won 10 skeins of alpaca yarn on Ebay and I am so excited to knit something out of it!!  I was thinking of another Simplicity cardigan.  It’s sock yarn and the colorway is a beautiful red.  I’ve never heard of Alpaca Ware yarn before but I found a website where you can buy it or just bid for it on Ebay.  The price is better if you try bidding for it!!

I enjoyed the Summer Olympics more than I ever have before and it was fun visiting London from my TV : D   Enjoy the Olympic Closing Ceremonies Sunday (Went by too fast).

Happy knitting  : )

Finished the Central Park Hoodie!

This cardigan was definitely not olympic knitting.   Well I finally finished the ever popular Central Park Hoodie and it feels so good to have finished it!!  I am so pleased with the cardigan, and it fits quite well to my surprise!!  If you notice a colorway theme going on in my blogs, then you would be correct in saying ……yes…… I love GREEN!  Green goes with most anything and is a good color for me, but I promise I will make the next cardigan a different color, Ha ha.

Can’t wear it yet because it’s summer time…… although some times it gets a little cool in the evenings when we go to the weekly concerts in the park.

The olympics are on and I’m wondering what is on your needles for this exciting event?

I’ve been making cup and tumbler cozies for my Etsy shop  http://www.etsy.com/shop/trimitup   I like to knit easy projects so I can pay attention to the events.

Happy Olympic Knitting : )

Free Pattern: Picot Edged Cup Cozy

Here’s a very easy pattern and practical idea too!  Cup cozies are a no brainer when it comes to protecting your hands from the elements (hot or cold).  I came up with this design because I wanted something a little different from the usual and with a little flair.  This pattern is knit in the round but you could knit it flat if desired and sew the side seam up when finished.

Picot edged Cup Cozy Pattern

4” x 4 ½ tall

Cup cozies are the perfect hand protector from scalding hot to icy cold drinks.

I actually prefer using them for ice coffee/tea (Keeps hands dry from condensation)!

Cozy can be flipped either direction and rolled up to shorten it needed.

Beginner/Easy level: Stockinette stitch (knit every row in the round), Picot stitch, Knitted cast on.

 SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • 1 Size 6 us, 9” circular needles or DPN’s
  • Worsted weight yarn (I used cotton) Less than a skein of two colors.
  • 1 stitch marker

Gauge is 4 1/2 stitches per inch, length not important.

 Body of cozy

Cast on 34 stitches.  Place stitch marker, now join to first stitch for knitting in the round.  Knit in stockinette till cozy is about 4 inches long, cut yarn leaving a tail for weaving in later.  Change colors and knit for ½”.  Done with body, do not cut yarn.

Bind off edging:

(Using knitted cast on method)  Cast on 2 Stitches from the first Stitch to be bound off.  Now bind of 4 stitches.  Slip last bind off stitch onto working left needle and repeat with casting on 2 stitches and binding off 4 stitches around until all stitches are bound off.  Slip stitch into first stitch again, cut yarn and leave 8” tail, weave in ends and enjoy!

Happy knitting!  : )

Finished Simplicity!

Simplicity Cardigan

Started Simplicity earlier in June and have now finished.   Here’s the Pattern link:

 http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/simplicity-cardigan

To recap, I used Lace Bamboo yarn by Blue Heron Yarns.  So incredibly soft!!  The  colorway is called soft green, 1260 yards worth. (Did not use all of it.)  I added an inch to the length but little did I realize…… the cardigan has a mind of its own and seems to be growing, even after I blocked it.  (May have to re-block.)  Note to myself: Use smaller needles next time.  I do love the Sheerness of Simplicity and would like to make another one sometime.  : )

Happy knitting!  : )
