Summer Mystery Shawlette Part 1 and 2

Just thought I’d show a picture of the mystery shawlette so far, only two more rows to go before I move on to part 3.  Very fun!  I like the way it’s unfolding and am looking forward to the next post from Wendy (part 3), Thursday, May 26th.

Had a nice weekend but a bit overcast.  I went to a gun show with my husband and bought a knife sharpener for the kitchen and a mini pocket knife for my purse…..you never know when you might need one, lol.  We also went to the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 3D.  The movie was very entertaining, we enjoyed if a lot.  No I’m sorry to say that I did not take my knitting along in the movie theater.

On a sad note…….my heart goes out to all the people who lost loved ones to the deadly tornado in Missouri yesterday.  I can’t imagine going through something like that because I’ve never lived anywhere but in California.  A part of me would like to be in a tornado (in a shelter of course) to see, feel, and hear what it’s like.  Crazy I know!

Started a new mystery KAL

I am so excited about starting this new KAL (Knit along )with Wendy D. Johnson.  Why you ask?  Because it’s a mystery KAL and I’ve not done one of those before!  Not sure how well I can keep up but it’s worth a try.  This KAL is called “Summer Mystery Shawlette”  It should be fun to see how the pattern will unfold in the days ahead.  The mystery part of it means that Wendy will give us small sections at a time of the shawlette pattern (charts) every few days and we get to see slowly how it will look in stages.  So we do not know what the pattern will look like ahead of time.  Sounds like fun to me!

If you are interested in joining along, then check out her blog: http://wendyknits.net/2011/05/15/summer-mystery-shawlette/

I’m using the wonderful Araucania yarn with 70% Super wash wool, 15% silk and 15% bamboo. Yum!!!  A beautiful turquoise colorway.

I do need to get started on this new mystery!!!

Happy knitting 🙂

Warm weather cozy pattern

Water bottle tote w/lip gloss holder.

I have come up with this crochet pattern just in time for the warm weather ahead.
When my husband and I go for walks, it’s nice to have a bottle of water handy.  It’s also important to have my hands free, so making this water bottle with a sling strap to put over my head and hang to one side made sense.  This pattern fits the standard 16.9 oz.  waters bottle, and includes a lip gloss holder too!

PS, You are welcome to sell finished cozies but not the written pattern its self.  Thanks!

I am selling my pattern on Etsy here:  http://www.etsy.com/listing/73386846/pdf-knit-water-bottle-tote-cozy-pattern for only $3.00

Happy knitting 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

My mom with her great granddaughter

My mom with her great granddaughter

These came from my oldest son this week!

When My mother moved in with us the first time, she had broken her hip and needed someone to assist her in her daily care and needs.  My step dad had just died two weeks earlier, so she had a lot to deal with.  That was ten years ago!  My mother eventually moved in with us in 2003 permanently until her passing in December 2007……I miss her so much! There is not a day when I don’t think about her.

She was a very loving mother and seemed to only care about our happiness (my sister and I). She was always cleaning something.  She loved washing clothes; once my husband said she was having an affair with the washing machine because she was always using it.

She did not know how to knit or crochet so she would ask me to make things for her.  I crocheted Afghans for her, knitted sweaters, shawls, bags, scarfs and mittens.  I loved making things for her. (she did a lot for me!)  My mom loved latch hook rugs and hand embroidery.  Her eyes started going bad so she had to give them up.  Another thing she loved to do were word-search puzzles, whenever she or my step dad went to the doctors she would pull out a book of word search puzzles from her purse and start working on them.

So many memories to tell but would be too much to write about here.  I encourage you to do something special for your mother as often as possible.  Or if she is already gone…… please remember all the good things about her and make something in memory of her today!

Happy Mothers Day! 🙂

Monogomous knitting!

I prefer small knitting projects like cowls or hats over long project like an afghan. Maybe because my attention span is a bit short and I keep seeing new patterns that I can’t wait to knit.  Or I get a pattern idea and can’t wait to get started on it.

Why not have other projects on my needles at the same time?  Well I do now…….thanks to my knitting friend, and you know who you are! (She made me see the light.).  I use to be a monogamous knitter and crocheter, but still prefer one thing at a time on my needles or hook.  So now thinking about it………. why not have one long project and one short project going on at the same time and maybe a KAL (knit along) too?  They are all completely different and there for, easier to keep track of.  (by the way, I am doing a KAL now)

I would love to hear how many projects are on your needles at one time right now!  Is it an issue keeping track of all of them?  Do you have trouble switching between projects and the pattern change that goes with each one?  Are you a monogamous knitter and why!   Would love to hear your comments!!!

Happy knitting 🙂
