Hummingbird fun on the Fourth of July!

We have a hummingbird feeder in our patio and is quite fun to watch the little birds eat and then go down to the ground to tease our kitties.  Our cats don’t even try to catch them because they know the hummingbirds are faster than they are.

Floppy the hummingbird

The first photo is a bit blurry but wanted to show you this particular hummingbird……I named him floppy because he has a distinct floppyness to him when he flys.   Well he has decided that the feeder is his only and won’t let any other fellow hummingbirds feed from it. Not all the time mind you, but enough that we have not had to fill the feeder for a while. Hmmm!  He likes to rest on one of my cactus plants and just guard his territory.  Then when a bird tries to partake, the little guy goes in for the kill (not really,

just shoos them away)

The other clear photo here is from an online gallery and looks just like the hummingbird (Floppy) in our patio.

Enjoy your independence day and every day…..Happy 4th of July!

A Simpler Time

Alpaca

Went to the Del Mar Fair last week-end and had a great time as usual.  Met a lady there who has an Alpaca business in El Cajonhttp://asimplertimemill.com  They will process your alpaca yarn for you (I think that means clean and spin your fiber) They also teach spinning and dying of your fiber!  Plus, they even teach bread making.

If you have never knit or crocheted with alpaca yarn then you must give it  a try……it is so incredibly soft to work with and to wear against your skin (yummy).

I knit these  fingerless gloves from alpaca bulky yarn a few years ago…….just wish I could wear them, but because we live in Southern California there is not much use for them.  Guess I could cuddle them haha!

Portia says I take too many pictures of her.  She is laying on a kneading cloth I made for my kitties last year.  They like to knead on me……. the problem is that sometimes my clothes get snags by their claws so I designed this cloth for them (and me).  The kneading cloth is posted on Ravelry if interested in knitting one for you and your kitties.  http://www.ravelry.com/projects/merrymarilyn/kneading-cloth-for-kitty

Happy knitting!  : )

Yarn Harlot’s Diplomatic Response!

I don’t usually do this…… but  felt the need to forward today’s Yarn Harlot blog to readers about an issue regarding USOC (United States Olympic committee).  Apparently the USOC has asked Ravelry to not use  the word Ravelympics because of trademark rights.  Thousand of knitter are very upset by this!  I won’t say anymore but instead let you read the Yarn Harlet’s excellent response.  http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/archives/2012/06/21/now_that_you_ask.html

This is Romey, one of my favorite kitties, yes she is chubby, cute and very sweet!!

Happy knitting

Slowly I Knit…Stitch by Stitch!

The Simplicity cardigan is coming along nicely but slowly!

I’m working on the last sleeve, yay!  Almost done except for the blocking,  I’ll show the finished product in the next blog post.

My daughter-in-law, Darci, is selling her wares on Etsy from their beautiful wedding.  If you have a wedding coming up some time in the near future and have the same colors as my son and Darci’s wedding then you might want to check it out!! http://www.etsy.com/shop/DoubleDeeWallace   She will be adding more to her shop soon.

Here’s a cool blog the my friend turned me onto! http://www.thefrugalgirl.com Loved today’s post about a book called “Garbology” She gives a book review that might make you want to buy this book.  It made me think about the cardigan I’m knitting right now because the yarn was made from bamboo. Yay for me!  Ha, ha.  So anyway this book talks about all the garbage in our land fills and how we can do our part in not making so much of it, like recycling, etc.  I haven’t read it but sounds like a good read!

This weekend is my husband’s birthday, so we are going the Del Mar County Fair for fun….Hurray!!  Love all the funky food there!

Sure hope you have a great week and weekend!  Happy knitting!  : )

From a Beautiful Wedding to a Yucky Cold

We had the most wonderful time at our son and daughter-in-laws wedding almost couple of weeks ago. Everything was so beautiful and to me everything went perfectly! The weather also was perfect…not too hot on the river.  We are so happy to have gained a daughter in the family…Yay!

Then back to reality…I caught a cold first on the way home…then my husband did after we got home from the trip.  But while in Sacramento I did visited my knitting friend and we went to Babetta’s in Fair Oaks, Ca, (yarn store) a place I use to visit when I lived there. We both bought some lace yarn by Blue Heron Yarns.  It’s bamboo lace and the colorway I bought is Soft Green, a great a price considering it’s 1260 yards.  My goodness, bamboo is so wonderful to knit with….incredibly soft and silky and it seems to have a great drape to it!  I’m knitting a cardigan with the bamboo yarn and the pattern is called Simplicity by Mary Annarella that calls for lace yarn….got the pattern on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/simplicity-cardigan you can order yours here!

Knit some slipper socks recently from Knit Picks… here they are…nice colorway and great for summer!

I’ll let you know how the cardigan is coming along on the next post.  Hope you all have a great weekend!  I have jury duty on Monday…Oh joy!!….. argg……. Ha, ha,  Happy knitting : )
