Review: Interweave Knits, winter 2012

Just received my Interweave Knits magazine in the mail yesterday, my goodness……I don’t know where to begin! First, I love the ads for all the new yarns, books and gadgets on the market like the Ottlite Craft Caddy Lamp or the Addi Quick Felting tool (Yes, I’m geeky like that) There’s a book excerpt on November Knits, this book offers 23 sweaters and accessories projects. The Burdock cardigan pattern from the book is in this winter edition. (I plan on knitting this one!)

The winter edition 2012 offers several color work projects like the Snowbird Capelet and Professor Jackson’s Scarf for you or the man in you life. Oh, and some of the most beautiful cables knits I’ve seen for a while. Love, love, love the cable hats! There is a pretty cable sweater that I would love to knit someday called Sylvia’s Pullover, page 80. So many wonderful projects to knit and so little time (somebody had to say it). If you knit even just one project from this winter edition, your sure to stay warm for the season.

Also…….There’s an interesting article, The Coincidental Knitter about Kristen TenDyke (knitting and crochet designer). She talks about how she eventually came into her own style.  The Artist Spotlight Comforting Connections: goes to Beth Egenhoefer for her wonderful work with textile sculptures, public art and video games. And there are always new knitting tips to learn. Over all a really great winter edition to your library.

Our neighbor gave us this cute little solar flower-pot as a thank you for loaning her our kitty carrier.  All three flowers moves as if to say, hey look at me, here I am!! Portia is trying to smell it here.

Stay warm and happy knitting : )

Last day……. of 31 Days of Cup Cozy Challenge – Be Thankful Cornucopia

This might be my favorite cozy for the whole month of October.  It’s important to be thankful for all that we have, family, friends, home, etc.  Just the act (Being mindful) of what we do have, instead of what we don’t have is therapeutic and sets our minds on the right track for the day. I know it’s hard to do sometimes, but for me it’s something I must practice everyday and to thank Christ for all the goodness in my life.  It’s too easy to focus on the negative.  (Don’t want to be preachy here.)

Not everything was perfect along the way when it came to embroidering the knit cozies.  Out of 31 cozies my machine did not accept 4 of them.  Most of the designs worked on the knitted fabric and I’m grateful for that!  See I’m trying to practice being thankful.

This has been a fun experience doing the 31 Days of Cup Cozies, and surprised that I was able to blogged everyday.  I generally don’t blog everyday and part of me thinks that most people don’t even want to hear from me all that often.  But I’m grateful for those that do follow me and hope that you learn something about knitting, crochet, embroidery or some inspirational thought for that day.  I’m getting too mushy…..sorry about that, Ha ha!

* GIVEAWAY/FREE!  If you liked today’s cozy so much that you would like to own it, then please tell me briefly why you would like the “Be Thankful” cozy.  Maybe about what your thankful for : )  Reply at the bottom of this blog.  I will announce the winner for the free cozy this coming Sunday 6 pm pacific standard time.  I will contact the winner by email and ship the cozy on the following Monday, November 5th.  Good luck!!

Have a safe and fun Halloween and Happy knitting : )

Day 30 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Harvest Owl

Day 30 of {31} Days of Cup Cozies Challenge – Harvest Owl

What a cute festive owl!  He’s surrounded by pumpkins, gourds, wheat, and colorful foliage.  Hand knitted with green yarn.

You could call my cozies…….. cup sweater sleeves, but I’m not sure people would get it.

For your information!

Owls are a group of birds that belong to the order Strigiformes, constituting 200 extant bird of prey species. Most are solitary and nocturnal, with some exceptions (e.g., the Northern Hawk Owl). Owls hunt mostly small mammalsinsects, and other birds, although a few species specialize in hunting fish. They are found in all regions of the Earth except Antarctica, most of Greenland and some remote islands. Though owls are typically solitary, the literarycollective noun for a group of owls is a parliament. Owls are characterized by their small beaks and wide faces, and are divided into two families: thetypical owls, Strigidae; and the barn-owls, Tytonidae.

Just beautiful!

Tomorrow is the last day of the 31 Days of Cup Cozy challenge, and I will be giving tomorrow’s cup cozy away to one of you!! Can hardly wait to start some new projects that are not cozies,  Ha, ha!  Every now and then I become a monogamous knitter again, I’m getting better though and not getting the sweats if I have more than one project going at one time on needles.

Happy knitting : )

Day 29 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Stocking Ornament

Day 29 of {31} Days of Cup Cozies Challenge – Stocking Ornament

This cozy embroidery design is actually a free-standing design, meaning you would hoop with water-soluble stabilizer, embroider the design, then soak in warm water to dissolve the stabilizer.  Dry the ornament flat on a towel, when dry you could string it through the top and place on a tree.  But I wanted to try it on a cozy and hoped it would work.  Knit fabric is way thicker than fabric or stabilizer so I was very pleased that it actually worked.  Yes, I realize it’s not Christmas yet, ha, ha!

I’m not going to offer this one for sale on Etsy because I don’t really care for the color combination (personally).  Maybe I will offer a giveaway on the stocking cozy later.  However I am going to offer a giveaway on Wednesday, the last day of the 31 Days of cup cozies challenge.  So please continue to read my blog so you don’t miss out on the giveaway, I will give you a hint…..it will be a fall cozy!  There is plenty of Fall season left.

I have been having problems with my old search engine so decided to try Google Chrome (With my sons encouragement).  The first thing I noticed were on this blog, photo placement issues……they are now gone! I was having trouble getting the pics to go where I wanted them to go.  To soon to tell what else might run smoother on my computer but it can only be an improvement : )

Happy knitting : )
