Wish I went to Vogue knitting LIVE.

I would love to have gone to the Vogue Knitting Live event in New York this past weekend. Reading posts and comments of those who went to this wonderful event makes me drool.  I can only imagine what it was like…. Many famous knitters/Authors were there all under one roof in New York.

I need to brag a bit.  My son Steven sang at Carnegie Hall a couple of times and wanted to hear him sing there, so my sister and I went there to see and hear him sing, then took a tour of New York.  Wow, there is so much to do there and to eat!  Lots of wonderful restaurants.  And of course we had to go to the Statue Of Liberty!  I know, I know, tourist….

A few of my friends and I were fortunate enough to go to STITCHES West a couple of years ago in the Bay Area. It was my first time to attend an event like this and I hope it’s not the last. There were classes offered for beginners, all the way to the more experienced. I did not have time to take a class, but I had plenty of time to buy yarn (that was more important to me at the time). So many choices to make like how much to buy of a type of yarn and what colorway. Then there were all of the gadgets, I love gadgets! Like special clips that hold seams together more easily for you so you can finish your sweater or whatever.  So many knitting needles to choose from…and patterns galore!…….need I go on.

Well, all this to say that I was a bit jealous that I couldn’t go. I live on the other side of the US so it would not be practical. But if you knit and (or) crochet, I encourage you to go to an event such as this, because you will be inspired and will want to learn more about your craft.

Sunny days for knitting!!!

There is something to say about a sunny day, even if it’s a bit chilly. I find that even knitting is more fun in the sun!!! Guess you can tell I’m a native Californian! I would not want to live anywhere else. My mood seems to go downhill as soon as the sky gets cloudy. What a wimp you say? Maybe! Don’t get me wrong, I do knit all year round.

When it’s sunny outside I can see my knitting projects that I’m working on a little better because I can get more light. And if I’m doing some felting work, it dries much quicker than on a cloudy day. For instance the felted tote pictured here would have probably taken up to a week to dry! There is a lot of wool tied up in this tote and when I felted it, it became very dense. (Felting wool is a process by where hot water and agitation are applied to the wool to make the wool shrink.) But more on that for another day. : )

Happy knitting! marilynknits

The big move to knit more!

My husband found himself unemployed last year because the company he worked for decided to move to China. In the process of all this I was consoling myself with knitting a lot. I started selling my wares on Etsy (an online market place) and I was working part-time at my church were I attended. Well nine months later my husband took a new job in Southern California. We had to uproot after living in our same home for 20 years almost to the day! We rented our home out and are now living in an apartment for now. Our three cats are adjusting to living indoors nicely!

It was not an easy move to say the least, I didn’t realize just how much my yarn stash had grown, but it needed to make the move with us. So now I’m trying to use some of it up by making things to sell. Of course it doesn’t stop me from buying more yarn that cries out to me like some hand painted yarns do.

I will give updates from time to time to let you know how we are settling in.
