Keeping up appearances!

My front door is being freshly painted today…..it reminds me of keeping up appearances (to look good).  And while I’m all for that it doesn’t hide the fact that, that’s all it is.

For people who don’t knit they might not realize how complicated some knitted projects can be so may not fully appreciate a gift, like a pair of socks. Sometimes I mess up my knitting (what a surprise!) and don’t catch it till much later.  You can either  rip it out (called frogging)  to the mistake and fix it or you can hide the mistake by simply fixing it with a yarn and needle. Example:  In socks if you are not pulling tight enough when doing the short rows at the heel you can have a hole, it can be fixed later by sewing up the hole on the wrong side of  the sock. (Keeping up appearances!)

No one will ever know!

Happy knitting!  🙂

Kitty Sitting

Julia Hopson of Knit Wits, Penzance, Cornwall ...

Image via Wikipedia

I have been kitty sitting for a neighbor these past ten days….two lovely kitty’s at that!  In exchange for a hair cut, not a bad deal if she’s good at it.  So I’m still knitting the botanical Medallion cardi, it will be beautiful when done (I hope) but it is a little boring to knit and am ready to move on to something else.

Have you seen this picture floating around on the internet?

Happy knitting 🙂

A Fair Event!

My husband and I went to the San Diego County Fair yesterday….boy was it a lot of fun!  For the last twenty years if we went to the fair it was always the Sacramento State fair, so it was a nice change.  I love all the vendors when I go to these things and like to see all the latest and greatest gadgets.  I also enjoy looking at all the hobbies that people display (like knitting of course).  There was also an amazing display of gems, rocks and jewelry of all kinds.   My husband has always wanted a geode which is a hollow rock with some kind of quartz inside, (this one is from Mexico).  Anyway at the fair you choose the rock you want and they crack it open right there in front of you, well this one was amethyst inside so we were thrilled.  This picture is only half of the geode and the pic doesn’t do it justices.

Here’s some cute alpacas, wish I could have one……… and the plus would be a lovely cardigan!!!  We were at the fair seven hours, well worth the admission price!  Very tired though.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!  Happy knitting : )

What’s on my needles?

Here’s what’s on my needles these days.

The pattern is called Botanical Medallion Cardigan from Vogue knitting magazine, Spring/Summer issue, 2009.  The yarn I’m using is 70% Tanquis Cotton, 30% Linen from Knitpicks.com.  The colorway is called Cashew.

I’ve never knit anything quite like this before.  First you knit the center, called the medallion.  Then you knit a piece to go all the way around the medallion.  When I’m all finished I will show you the end results…..hopefully it will turn out ok!  So far I like it.

Happy knitting : )

Plastic Bag holders

Had a request from my future daughter-in-law to make a holder for her plastic grocery bags.

She wanted one for her mother as well.  I gave them to her when my husband and I went to our oldest son’s and his fiance’s engagement party.  They were well received!  We also had a lot of fun meeting all the new family.

All the I-cords for the bag holders were made with my new fangled toy called the embellish Knit.  So much faster than knitting with DPN’s (double-pointed needles).

Happy knitting : )
