A Lefty Article

A funny!!

I was looking at a Ravelry forum for us lefties and found this really good article someone posted about lefties.  The article originally came from knitty.com several years ago and is titled: “Knitting in the mirror“.

I’m left handed and most of the time I don’t even think about it till I start knitting cables, reading charts or when knitting socks.  My cables come out backwards and when reading charts I have to remember to read the chart from right to left.  (Not a big deal)  But it’s small things like this that can become big problems later if your not paying attention.  Patterns are written for right handed people so us lefties can have issues sometimes.  I’m not asking that patterns should be written for us because there’s only about 10% of left handed knitters out there…..don’t want to be a bully!! Haha!  By the way……… don’t even try calligraphy 😦  Very messy situation.

Click the link above if your a lefty or want to get more insight about your lefties friends or students.

Another funny!!…..and so true!

My husband and I are going to the Ball this evening, no really!!  We get to dress up and everything, just something the company my husband works for likes to do every once in a while.

Happy knitting : )

Free Ravlery Faves

Currently I have favored 370 free patterns on Ravelry.  What a surprise to me!  I never paid attention until I read my pattern-saved statistics!!  So….these are a few of my favorite things (patterns) lol.  Keep in mind that I have not knit or crocheted all of the these, but as time permits maybe I can make a small dent.  Hahaha!  The last one is my pattern, Crochet  Mobius Cowl that seems to be a fave on Ravelry for some.  Feel free to click on the links below and see if any of these are in your favorites at Ravelry already.

Pain relief one stitch at a time???

A friend and I went to Neiman Marcus last week to have our makeup done and to have lunch there as well (A thank you gift!) As I was having my makeup applied (by Vicky), I told her that I’m a knitter, sell on Etsy and have a knitting blog but was having trouble knitting lately because RA (rheumatoid arthritis) is slowing me down.  Vicky told me that her mother was healed from RA…….. of course I had to ask how?  She texted her mom to find out more and her mother said to read “The New Arthritis Breakthrough”  So I thanked her and bought the book on Amazon that day.

The book is an eye opener and I am sooooo excited to see if it will help me.  I will post the progress if I am able to do this treatment but first need to see my Rheumatologist next month.  Strange as it sounds, an antibiotic is used as the treatment so I pray that I’m a good candidate for this.

*If any of you have heard of this book and treatment or have tried it then I would LOVE to hear from you!!! (positive or negative reports, please).  Thank you so much!!

New Years Resolution?…..ummm

I don’t do new years resolutions because I don’t want to be disappointed in myself or possibly disappoint others.  But setting goals is a different thing (to me anyways). But really …..making plans is more my speed.  Sure I could make plans to lose weight or exercise more and maybe I will, but in 2013 I plan to definitely knit and embroider more and make them available for sale on trimitup.etsy.com.  I will blog the same amount or quite possibly more (Even better).

2012-12-31 12.53.39Still working on the afghan for a family member.  This is panel three, panel four will make it complete : )  My hands have been very sore these last few days and so this yarn and cable pattern will only allow me knit a few rows at a time before the hands say no more please!!

2012-12-31 12.52.21For some reason this yarn and pattern ( second knit photo) are much easier on my hands so I have been working on this one for the last couple of days.  Of course it really helps that the yarn is baby alpaca! The pattern is called Baby Alpaca Grande Shrug/Vest.  The yarn and pattern are from Plymouth yarn Co. the colorway is denim.  Very easy to follow and knit! I will show the finished vest when done knitting it, but need to continue with the afghan as well so it might be a while.

I tried the vest on at a yarn store 2 years ago and fell in love with it.  Love the yarn, love the pattern, loved the fit. Here’s a link on Ravelry

John and I went to Pannikin in La Jolla for breakfast this morning.  It’s our favorite coffee and scone place, if your in the area you might want to check them out.  Pannikin Link

happy new year and happy knitting and crochet 🙂

Got an early Christmas present from my hubby, an Nexus 7.  The Nexus 7 is a small 7″ tablet like the mini IPad but not as fast.  Love this little gadget, and if my computer is acting up then I just go the tablet instead to look up what I need.  The Nexus 7 is compatible with Amazon so I can order books and movies for my Kindle with ease and read and watch them on it!! Oh, and most important, I can read a knit pattern on it 🙂 Check it out on the Google website.

Are you done with your Christmas shopping?  We are, so tonight we are going to the “Holiday of Lights” at the Del Mar Fairground.  Tomorrow night is Christmas Eve and so our choir will be singing…..love to sing and celebrate what Christmas is all about!

Merry Christmas and happy knitting,

marilynknits
