Day 23 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Home Sweet Home

Day 23 of {31} Days of Cup Cozies Challenge – Home Sweet Home.

The Wizard of Oz movie was my favorite movie as a child.  The design for this cozy made me think of that movie.

I love being home and tweaking the home decor to fit our needs, it’s one of my favorite things to do next to knitting of course!

Moving your household from one place to another requires a lot of mental as well as physical energy. (duh!)  My husband and I moved about a year ago now and I’m still tweaking things around here.  We replaced the kitchen faucet, ceiling light/fan in the dining room and various fixtures, added extra shelving, new gutters, and so on.  Right now I’m on a quest for a new hanging light for the livingroom . Hanging lights don’t seem to be very popular at the moment so I’m finding it hard to find one without having to spend too much money.  It’s not that important…………Really! : (

Romie kitty loves the new area rug we bought this year!

Day 22 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Colorful Turkey

Day 22 of {31} Days of Cup Cozies Challenge – Colorful turkey

This turkey is kinda cute, if you can call a turkey cute, ha, ha!  Here’s a little history from Wikipedia :

When Europeans first encountered turkeys in the Americas, they incorrectly identified the birds as a type of guineafowl (Numididae). Guineafowl were also known as turkey fowl (or turkey hen and turkey cock) because they were imported to Central Europe through Turkey. The name turkey fowl, shortened to just the name of the country, stuck as the name of the North American bird. In 1550, English navigator William Strickland, who had introduced the turkey into England, was granted a coat of arms including a “turkey-cock in his pride proper”.

The confusion between these kinds of birds from related, but different, families is also reflected in the scientific name for the turkey genus: meleagris (μελεαγρίς) is Greek for guineafowl. Two major reasons why the name ‘turkey fowl’ stuck to Meleagris rather than to the Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris) were the genuine belief that the newly-discovered Americas were in fact a part of Asia, and the tendency during that time to attribute exotic animals and foods to a place that symbolized far-off, exotic lands.

In many countries, the name for turkeys refers to some other country. See List of names for the Wild Turkey.

Several other birds, which are sometimes called turkeys, are not particularly closely related: the Australian Brushturkey is a megapode, and the bird sometimes known as the “Australian Turkey” is the Australian Bustard, a gruiform. The Anhinga (Anhinga rufa) is sometimes called the Water Turkey, from the shape of its tail when the feathers are fully spread for drying.  There ya go!

Day 21 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Kitty in Costume

Day 21 of {31} Days of Cup Cozies – Kitty in Costume

With Halloween fast approaching I have been adding more of that theme because there are so many pretty and cute designs on sale right now.  I love a good sale! I had to buy and make this one because, well……. it’s a kitty! The kitty looks so happy and contented.  I’m not into witches at all but it’s only a friendly costume.  Yesterdays and todays cozy took quite awhile to machine embroider, but well worth it!

In case your wondering……all of the cozy photos are shot sitting in my Keurig coffee machine, (not me, the cozies) it just seemed like a logical place.  Also I have been lazy and am just taking the photos with my 4G Android phone, maybe I should use my regular camera.  So if the pics don’t look that good to any of you then I would really appreciate your input.  (Taking photos is not my thing) Thanks!

Day 20 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Trick or Treat Puppy

Day 20 {31} Day of Cup Cozies – Trick or Treat Puppy.

This little puppy is so cute.  He is all dressed up and ready to go in hopes to get some tasty puppy treats from near by neighbors.

Dogs are such loyal companions and they are easier to train, but dogs are a bit more work to take care of than cats.  I never have to walk our cats but I do need to play with them regularly or boredom sets in and the younger one will tease to two older cats.

My husband and I would love to have a dog, but we have geriatric kitties and I think it would be too much for them to get used to.  We have a lot of friends that have dogs, in fact our neighbor is aways trying to get me to adopted a dog so we can walk our dogs together.  The YouTube below is interesting, I can’t imagine our cats doing this!

Day 19 {31 Days} of Cup Cozies – Dove

Day 19 of 31 Days of Cup Cozies, from thenester.com challenge – Dove.

I chose to embroider a dove onto a red knit cozy because it reminds me of Christmas, but…….

A dove can represent a bird, peace, christmas, chocolate (candy bar), beauty (soap bar) and there are others that use the word dove. While researching doves, I was very surprised to find that there is an organization called Domestic Violence Ended=D.O.V.E.  Christians use the dove as a symbol for the Holy Spirit.

Anyway, it looks great on a cup cozy.
